:-(

So, how are you blogging from Grayson Highlands State Park, you ask?

And the answer is, we're not. We're at home. We rented a mini-van and drove as far as Elkin, NC, on Friday night, so that we would have a short drive to the campground on Saturday morning. We took a dip at the Days Inn's pool, and though Sadie shivered a bit, we didn't think much of it, as it was a wee bit chillier than it has been. Around 8:30 or so, she started acting a bit dazed and we found that she was burning up. She was out of it and sick all night, sleeping fitfully. So, when we woke up, we called the other campers and sadly informed them that we were heading home. We met the Stinehelfers along I-40, handed them the food we had brought for our assigned meal, and hightailed it to Urgent Care in Chapel Hill. Sadie has an ear infection, probably as a last parting shot from the enterovirus she's pretty much recovered from.

We are cursed, apparently, when it comes to taking trips to the mountains.

So, if any of you with toddlers have any advice on how to make sure that antibiotics actually end up IN the toddler, please let me know. We've tried using a syringe (she just spits it out), mixing it in with some of her favorite foods (she just spits it out), and mixing it with her rice milk (she'll drink it in the dark until she notices that her milk is pink, and then she just spits it out). She has an entire wardrobe now of clothing colored bubble gum pink.

She is a wee bit perkier today, and while there's no way we can repack and head up to the mountains now, we might take her over to Playspace in Raleigh, as I don't think she's contagious at this point. Sigh...

awwwwwwww...I'm so sorry to hear the dreaded bad luck struck again! I had so hoped you got the opportunity to have a nice getaway :(

Hope Sadie is feeling better now. Poor kiddo.

As for the getting the antibiotics in her system. I too have/had tried all the same things you have. I finally found that the only thing that worked with toddlers that were too young to really understand bribery was to lay them down, straddle them and put a syringe between their steel clamped lips, shoot, quickly clamp lips back together and gently stroke the throat. They'll swallow, you'll feel horrible, but they'll get their meds and that truly is the most important thing. Once she gets a bit older you can go for bribery. LOL With Ky stickers are all it took to get her full cooperation. Now she just opens, swallows and goes about her business. FINALLY! whew!

Wedding is on Saturday...the blessed end is in sight! I'll be in touch SOON!
